Sway took a very long time to open too, and I want to say that I have heard that permitting is way behind. Looks like we need more manpower in the permitting department since Austin is becoming such a restaurant town!

Let's hope that is all it is, and that they haven't changed their minds. I'd feel better if i saw some construction in the space.

Default Mastman's construction finally started.

At last, an update! A notice on their website, dated March 20, 2013, says they've gotten all their permits and have started construction, and hope to open in June.

Yeesh. Talk about a brutal schedule slip! They originally announced their new location mid July last year, and talked about an October opening date. then November. Then... ??

There is a 6- 9 month delay in the permitting office right now. Lots and lots of projects are having big delays getting going.

I find that an odd way to summarize an article that asserts "It's still on!"

Anyway, to clarify, there's a big difference between a kosher-style deli and an actual kosher deli, which has rabbinical supervision, making it OK for observant Jews to eat there. Many places in Austin have kosher-style deli items that are not actually kosher.

As far as I know the only actual kosher deli/meat market in Austin today is a small one called The Kosher Store, inside the Far West H.E.B. They make sandwichws to order, have soup, etc. When I lived in Austin and had visiting friends who are observant Jews I made many a food run out there with them.

That was in an update from the owner - who originally promised to open last October - in response to the original article that reported 1) they had been locked out due to non-payment of rent, and 2) their web site registration had expired.

Believe who you wish.
