Coldwell Bankers recently released their report on relative housing costs. They compare the cost of a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 2 car garage, 2200 sqft house in a middle class neighborhood for many different cities. I attached a Texas/California comparison, since that seems to be the general migration pattern. Hope it is large enough to see, I don't really think I can resize them from my site

Anyway, even from the Cheapest location in CA (Bakersfield), you could buy two for one by moving to Austin. Now I kinda wish I had bought a house in CA some years ago......

Btw, the report has many disclaimers, such as NY and similar cities were not included because there were too few data points, etc. The full list can be found at money.cnn.com/2006/09/26/real_estate/costliest_housing_cities_for_middle_managment/index1.htm

Okay, maybe this piece will show up better, at least.....
