I'm taking my wife to the Dixie Chicks concert tomorrow at the Moody theatre. I try to avoid downtown, any suggestions for parking and food prior to the concert? Looking for good but not too expensive and fancy.

Yes.

Malaga Tapas & Bar - Home right down the street. Went there last time we went to The Moody Theater. Great happy hour specials. Also, https://lacondesa.com/austin of course.

Last time I parked in a good garage right around the corner from Malaga at San Antonio and 2nd.

La Condesa does have a good HH, but the bar gets packed prior to ACL Live concerts so go early if you want to go there. Lamberts also has a very reasonable HH.

There is a good garage on San Antonio between 3rd & 4th or you can just park in the surface lot right there.

Our fave is to park in the City Hall garage for $5. Then happy hour at Lamberts. Drinks are $2 off 5-7, and all the bar food is 1/2 price. Food is fantastic - beer battered rock shrimp, iceberg wedge, chopped beef sandwich, BBQ plate, burger - all 1/2 price. But try to get there not long after 5, as spots at the bar fill. Order a last drink just before 7, stroll across the street at about 7:15, time for one more in the lobby bar on your floor.

Texas Monthly just included Lamberts in their 50 best BBQ in the state list. Well deserved.

Enjoy your evening.

I don't know how full it gets for Moody Theatre concerts, but City Hall is right there in front of it and you can park in the underground parking. Normally it's $5 but during events I've seen it higher.

I second the recommendation of Malaga Tapas bar. It's kind of a treat since you don't can't really find that kind of food all over town (like you do TexMex). But if you like something like LaCondesa, you might also like Garrido's (Garridos Restaurant & Bar) at the base of the 360 Condo building. Next door to that (also under the 360 building) is Mulberry which is a tiny place, like a wine bar but with some really good food (short menu though). eat | mulberry . Also Second Bar/Kitchen at the base of the Austonian is nice, not too expensive yet fancy food for a rare trip downtown - Congress Austin – What do we recommend? Everything.. All these places except Second you should probably try to get a reservation.

I went to the Diana Krall show recently. Parked in the garage on Lavaca between 2nd and 3rd. Said $10. But the arm was up when we left and it ended up free.

We ate at La Condesa before the show. It has good food, but indifferent and aloof service. Seems to be normal for the hip cool places. They seem much more interested in keeping you in the bar than sitting you at table.

Malaga isnt great as far as tapas goes, but it is the best we have in austin. The atmosphere is nice and the food is pretty good.

How was my next ex-wife?

We've seen some great shows there. We are lucky to have that facility in Austin. Best show we've seen was Boston. That much energy in that intimate a setting. Unbelievable. The Johnny Cash birthday bash was almost as good.

And you are spot on about La Condesa. Tool cool for school. Made me not in a hurry to throw myself at Sway.

I don't mean to take this thread off topic, but I can't believe Lambert's made the Top 50 BBQ list in Texas Monthly. The restaurant is fine, but the BBQ there is nothing special. The few times I've tried the brisket, it has been dry and flavorless, so now I stick with other items when I go.
