Income tax, coming to Texas soon. Going to need it to support all the transplants.

So I wonder exactly where all those low rents in #1 Austin are? Austin is a lot of great things but I certainly wouldn't call it a great place to be broke.

There will never be an income tax in Texas.

Now I haven't been young or poor for a loooooong time but I can imagine that Austin tics a number of boxes when it comes to being a desirable location for the slightly impoverish boheme set.

-Loads of other youngsters around, students, post grads with I would assume lots of opportunity for apartment and house sharing...either with or without the landlords knowledge.

-Weather, yup you can walk or ride a bike even when it feels like you are melting. Can't just hop on a bike during snow, sleet or a serious downpour. Trade off car payments for deodorant payments.

-Service jobs: Waiter, waitress, bartender, hostess, retail, moving company, etc...it's an healthy sized city so there are going to be jobs.

-Hip location: Agree or not Austin is perceived by most as being cool.

Now I see where it would be tough to be a young newbie professional here, lots of other recent grads in the market, your own studio apartment would be costly, need for a car and all of the other cost of entry into the "professional" world would ring up rather quickly.

Believe it. There will be an income tax. Schools are broke and a huge influx of transients. Good luck sweet prince.

Fat lot of good that's done for California & Illinois.

The expats won't go for it because of their experience with failed state governments.
