We're getting estimates for these right now. So far we've contacted Circular Energy and Solar Community. With the tax rebates, seems like a very good deal.

Anybody have any experiences to share? Thanks.

Did you use the Forum search function for "solar"? I recall numerous posts in recent years by people who have installed solar. That would be a good way to contact them.

Yeah I did - it all dated back to early 2011.

Found this fairly recent one under a photo volataic search:

Quote:
Someone asked how much it cost. Our cost was about $3,500. Our system produces about $100 of electricity per month at 12.5 per kwh. Initial installation was $13,000 out of pocket, then we received an $9500 rebate from the federal govt. The installation also bumped our appraisal up by $15,000. It helped us refinance into a 10-year loan at 2.75%, and eliminate PMI. Our goal was to pay off our house by the time our oldest graduates high school. It made financial sense.

I wonder if Texas allows for solar lease programs?

I just did a search on Solar in the Austin forum, and got 486 hits, at least 50 since the start of the year. Searching for photovoltaics or pv might turn up more.

I always choose to return the results as posts, rather than threads, because it is easier to scan through them quickly for relevant results.

Good luck.

Mind sharing your estimates? How much after rebates? Link to latest rebates? Thanks

I got my system from SRE (Standard Renewable Energy, based in Dallas but they install in Austin). 5.04 kW system, all microinverters (due to shading), 21 240W panels, about $21K before rebates, $6500 total out of pocket. System has been live for over a year now and works great!

If that were the cost in Houston, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, we don't get the rebates that you do; therefore, the cost would be closer to the $13,000 range. Too much money for a 5kw system, IMHO.
