Are there guidelines for this when sidewalks have to be dug up for utilities or other reasons? I've recently seen a few examples of this around here and the replacements certainly look "cost effective." Not only did then not use concrete, but they didn't even bother to use a roller on the asphalt to smooth it out.

I wonder if it's temporary? If not, I'd definitely complain to the City. Sidewalk within the ROW should be repaired to equal or better condition.

That's a temporary fix by the water department (its on the city side of the meter).

We experience this a lot in our neighborhood. They get in and get a quick fix done with the asphalt and then within 6 months or so they come back and replaced the concrete. If you have anyone that uses a wheelchair in your neighborhood and is active, have them try and use that section of the sidewalk. If they can not, then they can put in a complaint to 311 and it usually gets bumped up in priority, at least that is what we have noticed.

The city has been replacing water pipes in our neighborhood, it's a big project. We worried they were going to leave the streets and sidewalks in terrible shape. To the city credit, they just finished and they look better than before, a nice surprise.

If it stays like that for long I would investigate and ask that it be fixed.

Well it took 7 or 8 months but they did come and fix it.........This is good since there are a lot of these temp sidewalks in the neighborhood now with all the new construction.

Yeah, I imagine they just let them build up and then do a bunch at once.

The City utilities can get away with things they'd never allow from contractors.
