Hi all,

This may be wishful thinking but I'm wondering if I can escape the histamine hell I'm in here in Austin by spending some time at my folks place in Boerne. My Dad swears that his allergies are much worse every time he visits me in South Austin.

Has anybody spent time in both and noticed a difference?

Thanks!

Might want to post this in the San Antonio section, so people in Boerne can chime in about allergies.

If ceder is your issue, I don't think being in Boerne will help. Your dad might be allergic to oak, that is particularly heavy in South Austin and might be lighter in Boerne, same with fall elm.

But overall, I do not think it will make much difference.

Have you been tested? Do you know what you are allergic to? That is a good place to start.

Most of the cedar pollen in central Austin comes from the surrounding hill country. So moving to the outskirts would make that allergy worse.

Agreed. One of my friends had to leave San Antonio and move back to Corpus due to her cedar allergies.

Here is my anecdotal...

I lived in San Antonio for over 20 years and suffered from the Mountain Cedar pollen. I now live between Austin and Dripping Springs, and while there are still issues, there is a world of improvement. Here versus south Austin, I do not know.

Mountain Cedar Range - as best I can tell Boerne would be roughly in that wide swath of green.

Thanks so much everyone. Boerne seems much dryer in general and I'm suspecting I'm sensitive to mold so I think I"ll just do a trial and see how I feel.
