MetroRapid v. Regular Bus v. Car v. Bike v. Pedestrian

Bike for the easy win. Dead last was the pedestrian right?

Wrong - it was the car.

I live in Central Austin and my main mode of transportation is my bicycle. So much less stressful and often times faster to get around by bike. I never have to worry about finding parking and if I need to I can take my bike on the bus.

I love this lifestyle of not being confined to my car all the time like when I lived in a suburb of San Antonio

THANK YOU for posting this.
I gave up my car 2 years ago.

Now get ready for the onslaught of people who are going to say that the bicycle wins only because cyclists don't follow the same traffic rules that cars do.

I gotta say, one of the biggest dangers for me as a cyclist and/or walker is the fact that the pissed-off people in cars can be very aggresive and threatening because they're stuck in traffic for so long. Besides the fact that they get bored and start surfing the internet or texting while driving.

Love this!

Shorter: Bike busts traffic laws, car stupidly stays in worst travel corridor in Austin instead of finding alternate route. "Experiment" conducted while First Street is torn apart for construction with multiple lane restrictions.

I was driving home up Lamar along Shoal Creek yesterday, about 6 PM. Guy on a bike is weaving through traffic, riding between cars when we were stopped at a light, pulling in front and taking the lane when he got to the front. Jumping up on the sidewalks when he wanted to. Jumping in front of cars off the sidewalk when he wanted to.

Oh, and of course, no helmet and earbuds.

That's why people hate cyclists.

Won't make any difference to the ideologically blinded, but that wasn't the best day to time car travel:

Downtown is total gridlock if you are coming out here for dinner leave nice and early or plan on arriving late & losing your reservation.

When I lived in South Austin I used to commute by bike along S. Congress from St. Elmo (just south of Ben White) to Riverside every morning during rush hour. I obeyed every traffic signal, and yet, I beat the cars and buses every single time.

I'm pretty sure that was the point - many ways to do better than cars in congestion. One of which is simply to take a stroll.

Completely legal.

You want the car to take an alternate route(previous post), but bad mouth the bike for taking a (legal) alternate route?
