I get Seasonal Affective Disorder and this is my first year here. I love Austin.

However, this fall/winter/spring there have been sooo many cloudy days.

Is this abnormal for Austin?

In my limited experience, this has been a SAD winter for Austin. Wish we could bottle a few of these days to open up in July and August.

I have a relative who had pretty bad effects from SAD while living up north; however, even when it is cloudy, the longer daylight hours seem to help.

And yes, this is a cloudier window than normal, I would guess, but not that unusual. The winters are cloudier.

Cloudy days seem fine to me. Here in Chicago it is the single digit days, over 60" of snow and the fact it's still snowing in March that gets to me!

Austin gets about 230 sunny days a year. That means we'll get, on average 135 cloudy days or so. Unlike Portland or Seattle where all of their cloudy days are concentrated in half the year. . .these tend to be spread out over the year. But cloudy days in the winter feel drearier because the light is so thin to begin with.

Define a few acres, and what's your price range, and what do you have in mind to do with the land - garden, have horses, or just kick back and enjoy the privacy? I ask the last because the different soils in the Austin area are conducive to different uses in different areas and that impacts recommendations.
