Look at Bee Caves area. Most small towns have more local businesses and grocery. Bee Caves is growing, but has target, whole foods, retail shopping, and close to lake and 30-45 from Austin.

I live in Buda. Its about 20 minutes to Downtown Austin. Kyle is right next door and there is a gamestop and a Target. There is also a super target not too far from here in Southpark Meadows. There is three whole foods according to google , none too close but one appears to not be way too far. There is a Sprouts market! I pass by it all the time. I am new to the Austin area myself, been here about a year. I am from Spring, just North of Houston area.
I love it here so far. It isn't dry county! That I know! I love the location because it isn't too far from anywhere. Close to Austin, 1 hour from San Antonio ( I have 3 kids in the Air Force so convenience to Lackland is a plus), New Braunfels is 40 minutes? All the surrounding areas, like Dripping Springs,Driftwood,Wimberley, etc. are beautiful! The real estate market here is fabulous, as well as Houston and Dallas. All three cities have been thriving lately.
There are parks everywhere and it is very pretty if that is what your looking for.

I would say New Braunfels as well. Also check into Wimberly.
