For those who live in this area, how is it? Is there a lot of crime? Which are the best subdivisions to buy a home with a lot that is at least 7-8000 sqft? I live in Hutto now and work in RR but don't really see anything worthwhile in Hutto that is below 150k. RR homes seem to either be old, overpriced or have small lots. Same with Pflugerville. I don't have any kids nor plan to, so school quality is least important. Also if anyone knows how quickly homes in this area rent, let me know! I don't plan to stay here for more than two years.

If you are not staying more than two years, you should just rent yourself!

Manor is a mixed bag, search the threads, there is at least one with a highly detailed breakdown of every subdivision in Manor.

I thought the "rule" was 5 years.

Sure. But the OP states she only plans to live in central Texas for two years -- which is why I advised her just to rent instead of looking to buy, especially in Manor.

Never purchase in an area if your staying only 2 years. Unless you want to be a landlord. Before I decided to buy I would check crime rates, foreclosure rate, and schools, because if you decide to buy and want to sell , those people who will be looking to buy will be checking out schools, so you want to be sure the schools are good schools in the area where your purchasing. If you were staying and not planning to move then it wouldn't matter.

Thanks for the responses. After driving around Manor, I have crossed it off my list. I ran upon a home that needs cosmetic work in RR and may purchase and sell in a couple years. My rental home is 1300 that I grabbed in a hurry last year and now several others of similar size/features in the same area are 1100. LL won't go down so if I am going to spend money to move it might as well be to something I own.
