The new store won't open until the 26th but the gas station is now functioning. Today they are selling unleaded regular for $3.19 per gallon and virtually no lines. Take advantage while you can.

Wow! is that a special. It's worth it to drive across town just for the gas.

I wouldn't drive TOO far for a ten percent discount.(actually not quite that) Always good to save a bit if you're in the area. Maybe if I make a Staples run this week...

Chris is dead on. A door-less wall in back of the HEB to shield it from the homes on Philomena is all I had to hear to know they weren't serious. The East 7th Street and Far West Blvd HEBs are better integrated into their respective neighborhoods that this and hence more useful.

Maybe they will make adjustments, the area still has some development work. Good points though.

I regularly shop at the Hancock Center HEB and looked forward to its not being so crowded once the folks from the eastside had a market closer to their homes. A lot of them, however, seem to take public transportation and this new location is clearly more geared towards those arriving by car. It will be interesting to see how many shoppers are drawn away from Hancock. Probably, many folks from Hyde Park rather than East Austin is my guess.

It is my understanding that the Hancock HEB is the #1 selling grocery store in the city with a huge customer footprint from East Austin's Cherrywood west to Central Austin's West Campus and north to Highland neighborhood [I know this because I used to live there before Hyde Park and several of my neighbors went to Hancock HEB regularly, rather than the closer North Austin Rutland/Rundberg location].

My opinion is the the upscale Mueller HEB will largely serve the central East Austin neighborhoods of Mueller, Wilshire, Delwood, Chestnut, St. John, Coronado Hills and MLK neighborhoods.
