My husband just found out today that he got the job he interviewed for in Austin. He will be working off of Bee Caves RD. How bad is traffic from places like Cedar Park or Round Rock to that area? We only have 200K to work with for a house. Everything in Austin west of 35 is pending in that price range. Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

Bee caves and ?.

It's pretty congested getting there from just about anywhere in the $200K range - depending on his work hours.

Rent your first year or you will likely end up making a buying decision you'll regret.

I would rather not rent. We don't have money to throw away to renting.
ETA- We are renting now and may have to break our lease which will probably make it hard to find a place to rent.

Would Kyle or Buda be a better option?

Probably the best advice.

You'll be looking East of I-35, south of 71, and have your serious radar out on anything in 78745.

Only other options might be Kyle, with a pretty ugly drive. The RR or CP commutes would be non-starters. Work hours will help some, he'll be slightly ahead of the big crush.

Everything in 78745 gets snatched up immediately. Everything in our price range is pending.

This is why you rent, so you can jump and snatch when the time is right. Realize also that you're looking at the hottest peak of the year, in the hottest market in years, in the hottest (sort of) area, at a low price point.

If you buy right away, be prepared to buy sight unseen - in which case, see the "horrible decision" advice above.

If you rent for 6 months or so, get the lay of the land - who knows, you might get lucky. At the very least, you won't be buying like the last people left in the bar at last call on NYE.

Right now we are in San Antonio. We rent here. Chances are if he takes the job we will end up breaking the lease which will possibly make renting again difficult. He was planning to commute from SA until we found a house we could buy. We weren't just looking to blindly buy. We still plan to take time to find the right house. I was just wondering how long it would take from the suburbs since housing is more affordable and not everything seems to be pending.
