Hello all,

I was thinking of venturing to Hamilton Pool tomorrow sometime. However, a friend told me that it fills up quickly and they will actually turn away people after a while because of the lines. Is this true? And if so, when would you suggest I get there by?

This is a place I have always wanted to go to, and I would hate to drive all the way there from San Antonio to either wait in line all day or be turned away all together.

Finally, is it worth it for a day trip if what he said is true? And if not, what other woodsy/hiking places would one suggest that can be a fun day for two people?

Any input would be nice!

It fills up by 9:00 or 9:30. You can wait in line to get in after that.

It's unique and if you've never been then I would make the trip. If you can wait until after school starts then you'll have an easier time getting in and will be less crowded.

The little beach can get crowded. There's not much to do other than swim and sun. You can hike all the way around the pool.

The Blue Hole in Wimberley is open. Maybe you can do both.

If Hamilton Pool is too busy you might try Barton Springs instead.

Jacob's Pool filled up by 1130a when we were there 2 Sundays ago (fortunately we were on our way out at that time).

Could be a bit less crowded as the rain chances increase the farther north you travel today. Good luck!

Go early and check a day or so before because they sometimes close the pool due to bacteria levels.

If the pool becomes too crowded you can hike/walk from the pool over to the Pedernales river. I did this with the kiddos a couple summers ago and fortunately I had a couple small inner tube type floats in the backpack.

So after 10 minutes of gasping and inflating the tubes we had a nice couple hours of lazy floating on the river.

Of course now that I reread your post you are probably on the road already so best of luck!

It's not just the parking lot filling up that might make you leave, but sometimes you're not even allowed in the pool at all. At those times, you can only hike. You need to call the night before to make sure it's going to be open the next day. We always go right at 9am when they open so we've never waited in line, but we've definitely seen the lines when we've left.

The first 10+ times we wanted to go, the pool was closed. The last handful of times, it's been open. It's a crap shoot. Too much rain causes it to close and too little rain also causes it to close because of bacteria levels.

Note that there is also some good hiking along the Pedernales right next door in the Reimers Ranch Park.
