First time I've looked at the new reclassification across the state for football. Particularly, wanted to see the implications to the Austin and immediate surrounding schools.

Conf Cutoffs (student pop):

6A: 2100+
5A: 1060-2099
4A: 465-1059
3A: 220-464
2A:105-219
1A: 104.9-

6A: http://www.uiltexas.org/files/alignm...14_2014-15.pdf
5A: http://www.uiltexas.org/files/alignm...14_2014-15.pdf

Local Rank Order by pop(descending) for 6A "Austin" schools: Bowie, Westlake, Akins, Lake Travis, Anderson, Austin

Local Rank Order by pop(descending) for 5A "Austin" schools:Vandergrift, Johnson, Lanier, McAllum, Travis, Crockett, Reagan, Eastside Memorial*

* - basketball only

No 4A schools now in AISD.

What is now 5A was 4A, so nothing really changed at the top end. 2012 cut off for 5A was 2090, new 6A is 2100. Old 4A was 1005 in 2012, new 5A is 1060. Where the change was is at the bottom - they basically created a new 1A for schools below 105. Before, 1A went to 199.

Many think it is to make it easier for charter schools to field competitive teams.

This is my take as well. But...I'm not sure what "Local Rank Order(descending) for 6A "Austin" schools" in the OP means.

A couple of observations:

- A powerhouse in many sports, Highland Park, moves up from 4A to 6A & joins our region.

- Several other suburban 4A programs in Greater Austin, Dallas & Houston move up & join our Region (Two) in 6A.

As scm53 stated, no other changes of note.

Guess HP's UIL mojo has weakened. The old joke used to be that the 5A cutoff was HP + 1.

Should make for some exciting regional championships between LT or WHS (especially with their new head coach!) and HP.

To be sponsored by Lexus.

The biggest surprise to me is that Vandegrift is an 'Austin' school. It's not in Austin, nor is it in AISD.

Did a brief search for "austin" only. "Austin Vandergrift" is how they're listed.

Somebody may want to inform both the USPS and the school themselves then - both show the address in Austin...
