Does the Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake ever close? I can't seem to find information online. The reason I ask is because I'm moving into a condo that backs up to the boardwalk. It would be much safer for me (and much faster!) to use this boardwalk for my route when I go downtown to drink. Is this allowable? Does it close at a certain time? Or could I really walk home on it at 3am?

Might be a stupid question, but I can't find an answer!

I get so frustrated as it is that everyone tries to classify that as a "drunk driving accident". SXSW was not a drunk driving accident. That makes people think it was some SXSW attendee who partied too hard and accidentally crashed into a barricade on the way home. No. It was a wanted fugitive felon who was fleeing the police because of outstanding warrants also driving a stolen car...who also happened to be drunk and high because why not.

The boardwalk was paid for in part by transportation funds and as a result it is open 24/7 unlike the rest of the trail which follows park hours. I believe the Pfluger pedestrian bridge is also always open, in any case neither one is ever cordoned off.

That is not what the City website says:

Visiting the Boardwalk:

  • Hours: The Boardwalk is open from 5am to midnight each day, with a curfew between midnight and 5am.

Ah you are apparently correct. it was a just a pilot program to lift the trail curfew and that pilot is now over.

Much safer to ride your bike or walk on the Boardwalk versus Riverside Dr which has very poor bike/ped accommodations. Some rules should be ignored after all positives and negatives are considered......So is the boardwalk lighting on between midnight and 5AM?

Um, yeah. I'm pissed. I moved here so I would have easy access to downtown. GUESS I HAVE TO DRIVE!!! I don't want to get run over on I-35 and also don't want to be charged $100.00 by Uber for driving 1 mile during peak times.

Watch out.
