We just moved from Dallas to Austin NW Great hill area. We love Austin except for the park in Austin. Our kids miss the park near our coppell house which has big playground for even school age kids and nice trail and wide grass area around a lake which is great for kids to play or ride.

We know Austin is much better in outdoor life. But we feel so sorry that we haven't found a playground and trail that is good for 6 years old kids to play around.

Any recommendation?

great hills park is really nice, there are about 2 miles of trails at that park. I think there is a creek too. Just a bit of playground equipment

For playgrounds we sometimes go to laurel mountain elementary although the playground is a bit castrated.
kathy caraway has a nice playground too with a trail that goes all the way around the school (oakview park officially)

Phils ice house has a playscape

We usually go to the dominion at great hills park on yaupon.

We also go to the arboretum which has open space (and pond with ducks) but no playscape. They would create huge demand by putting one in though.

There are tons of parks in the area. Both bigger ones and smaller neighborhood ones. Springwoods Park on Anderson Mill is one you should check out for sure. Also, City of Austin maintains a ton of parks. Check this link for all the Northwest ones. And go to different neighborhood parks.

If your six year old is into nature, you are very close to the scenic hill country hiking trails in St. Edwards Park. I find it to be something of a hidden gem in the sense that it is never crowded while being in close proximity to densely populated suburbs.
