This is so repulsive and astoundingly offensive. Everyone should be outraged.

Ha, what a tool!

He also makes $279,198 a year and apparently was almost fired last year for unspecified crappiness.

Interesting. Maybe the Councilwomen can show that they know how to deal with patronizing male city leaders by firing him. He is a lousy, ineffective City Manager and this is just another example.

This sort of "know your demographic" business training is common though. I find it highly offensive and ridiculous as well. As Realtors, we are often exposed to well meaning but moronic b...sh*t "education" that purports to teach how to work with categories such as "Seniors" (there is even a professional designation for it), Millennials, Asians, Hispanics, "Foreigners", certain religions, and of course the generic "personality types" like "Engineers" (they supposedly want 'data'), "Entertainers" (island kitchen), etc.

If you'e the type of person who is the same no matter who you deal with, it all seems like an attempt to teach people how to be phony, shallow and insipid.

Steve

Perhaps Austin's city council would do well to consider emulating San Antonio, which has had women in the City Manager job since 2001.

Repulsive? Astoundingly offensive? Outraged? Those all seem pretty like extreme reactions considering what was actually said.

The fact that the City Manager thought this training was necessary seems pretty bizarre when you consider that, prior to Ott, two of the previous three City Manager's for the City of Austin were women. Camelli Barnett, Jesus Garza and Toby Futrell.

Austin also had Carole Keeton Rylander Strayhorn, notable for several "firsts" in Austin and Texas politics. She is the first woman elected as mayor of Austin and the first Austin mayor elected to three consecutive terms.

Really? Have you experienced a lot of systematic discrimination in your lifetime? I'm going to guess not. This "training" only goes to prove that despite the number of women who have held office in Austin, they are still not considered equal to the men who have held the position.

Would you be saying that is someone did a training on How to Deal with Black People?

Exactly.

Mark Ott has proven himself to be an incompetent city manager since he obtained the position. This time, of course, he's blaming an assistant city manager for arranging the class and has suspended him. Because what your team does under your watch isn't your responsibility.

Maybe they could get the same guy to give that "training" as well.

City politics and personalities aside, this PC-ism is killing us. Women are different, as are blacks, asians et al.

Welcome to United States of the offended. Or if you like to live on the edge, the Urban dictionary is even more articulate.
