Not a KB owner, and not even a KB fan... but I am a serious 'house looker'. KB gets slammed a lot as to build quality, but from what I've seen it's directly proportionate to price point. Buy in the 'starter home' price range and they're going to cut every corner they can get away with. Move up in the catalog and the quality improves. You can see it just driving through the different KB developments... don't even need to go inside the houses. Other tract builders do the same thing, but KB seems to take the whoopin' for all of them.

KB had earned that reputation decades ago. I remember my parents looking at them in the 80's and their reputation was in the toilet back than. I think they even got sued and ended up changing their name to their initials to get away from the reputation. They built on the bare minimum of code and went with the cheaper products.

Having said that, we just moved from a KB rental in Silverado Ranch. Our landlord had flipped the house just before we moved in, so it was really nice, but even the bones of the house seemed to be in good working order. They also did a nice job in the neighborhood of keeping a lot of the old trees. If we could have found a resale house that fit our needs in that neighborhood, we would have considered it.

Also, we are Asian Indians and would prefer to be in a community with at least some Indian population. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sarvi: I can't tell you exactly which neighborhoods to look for, but I know from my work experience that there is a huge population of Asian Indian families in the North Austin and Northern suburb areas. When we were looking for our new house we were told that a new community in Leander on Journey had a growing Indian population. Don't know numbers are stats, but there are two builders in that neighborhood. Broehn (sp?) is one of the builders. Gotta run now, but I can look it up later and let you know for sure. It's right across the street from Stiles MS.

Well this was a difficult community to find online! It doesn't show up on most "New Home Builder" web pages, but I knew it was there. We liked the Centerra House, but the Brohn model was not completed when we were looking. So I don't know what that one looks like. They are the only two builders in the community. I have not heard anything bad about either one, but haven't heard much in general about either.
