HR professional here, looking for a change in scenery. Apart from the official labor market statistics, does anyone have any insight on the HR job market (or the greater job market in general, since a strong hiring climate is usually correlated with increased HR activity) ?

For context, I have 9 years progressive HR assistant (HRBP and HR Consultant being my last roles) in a number of industries including hi-tech and big pharma, in NYC and Washington state in addition to Canada (including oilpatch, although I doubt there's much activity there now.) Bachelors degree from a Canadian university (I feel this may put me at a disadvantage?)

Thanks!

I don't think the BA thing would be a problem. You'd have to look at the big companies in town to get a sense of their HR openings.

HR roles pay pretty well down here, especially if you're looking at the tech companies. BA won't put you at a disadvantage, as it's the baseline requirement for most jobs of that type down here, but a Master's, or PHR/SPHR cert will really help you.

State government continues to grow as the state grows. HR offices in each department/agency make for numerous opportunities here.

Job market is more difficult here in Austin due to the lack of larger companies here. Generally most companies here only will have one or two HR people. Have you contacted a local recruiters?
