Hi All,

I currently live in Phoenix, AZ and have lived out here for 8 1/2 years. I have been job hunting here for the last several months with no luck. I decided that it may be time to relocate out of state, and I have my eyes on Texas. I have lived in the deep south, Mississippi, but grew up in the midwest (Ohio/Illinois) until my time in AZ. Living in Phoenix I am used to the heat, having lived in the midwest and south, I am used to snow and humidity. I am in school getting a second Masters in Instructional Design, and I have been looking into Curriculum Development positions, Training Specialist, and even some Instructional Design jobs. My previous experience was in teaching in K-12 for almost 10 years but I am so done with teaching in this area. There are a lot of job postings out there which is great. In Phoenix, I have been phased out a lot for jobs because I have a higher degree....a lot of the jobs out here you can have a minimum high school diploma or associates degree. Plus they don't pay very well.

For others that have relocated or are looking to relocate to Austin, or looking at Texas, how is it looking for you from a job searching perspective? Is it highly competitive? I am willing to pay for my own relocation out there which could help a lot with job prospects.

Thank you!

If you really want to move, you will have better luck in the bigger cities like SA, Houston. Austin is over-saturated in just about every field

San Antonio has many school districts in the metro area which may make it a good place to look. The Austin school district is contracting a lot due to affordability. You would be better off looking just outside of Austin for districts. I wold disagree with the education piece, as many of the more in demand fields require higher education.

I recently relocated (in the social service field) and was worried that it would take a long time to find the right thing. I did not move without a job and had a bit of savings. I came from San Antonio and the cost of living feels intimidating to me even today (5 months later) but it is doable. As someone else said we are pretty saturated. Fwiw, it took me 45 minutes to drive 12miles today during rush hour. Good luck in whatever your decision is!

What is instructional design, you don't feel the double masters will be a hinderance in other markets? Just curious.
