Thanks for this. Rape was reclassified by the FBI which is why there is a jump.

After Federal Reclassification, the Number of Austin Rape Cases Doubles | KUT

I wonder what happened to victims that "didn't qualify" for a rape case before under old definition... looks like quite a lot of people.

78745 extends from Brodie to South Congress, not from Mopac to 35 as stated in the chart.

Probably as 'assault', which isn't listed in the statistics above.

Those descriptions are my own and may be a little vague in some cases. You are correct that Brodie Lane is a better description of the Western edge of 78745, even though at the Northwest corner it does go almost all of the way to Mopac. However, you are incorrect about the East border where it does go all of the way to IH-35 according to City-Data and Google Maps.

Another mistake of mine. I should have said ...

"Agg Assault decreased from 1980 to 1889"

So crime in every area decreased, with the exception of Rape (and there is an explanation for that)!

That is good news for Austin!

As always, when comparing different zip codes you should bear in mind that the total populations of various zip codes are vastly different.

78758 for instance has a population of 45,623

while 78739 has only 17,198

And of course even that's an oversimplification (for instance, downtown with a "population" of 5,915 has a daytime population an order of magnitude higher).

Very true, and it would be nice to see 'per capita' numbers, even though those aren't perfect, either. It is interesting that Austin has grown significantly over that time period and the overall numbers are down/flat. Curious to see how that is going forward.
