Ouch, just looked at ours. At least some small thanks to the HSE cap on increase in assessed value .

I'm amazed to see that after years of increases, mine actually decreased.

Strange, wcad (at least to me) seems a bit more tame than Travis. Our former Pflugerville home increased by 60k (I really hope the new owners are aware of protesting) yet our current home in Wilco increased $12k. Bank appraisal was higher, even with the increase, so I am somewhat hesistant about protesting. Our neighborhood only had about seven or eight homes for sale during the entire year and there's no new construction nearby so maybe that explains things..who knows. It's only a matter of time before we will be paying $10k in taxes.

That's one big reason we left the large Texas house and moved into the townhouse just down the street almost three years ago. Of course, our tax bill has increased twice; but I reckon the new owner of our old house is pushing $12K in taxes!!! Never thought I would feel "lucky" to pay "only" $6K in property tax

If you have new construction and TCAD assesses the improvement value for more than you've spent building it, is that typically an easily-won protest?

I was talking to a friend about this tonight. Same thing happened to him last year (TCAD assessed the improvement value for 30% more than he spent building it) and TCAD said they it doesn't matter how much you spent--that they will still value it at what they think is market rate.

I hope that isn't the case...they've valued the improvement much more than we've spent....but we'll certainly try.
