Hello everyone, found a place to live in Jollyville area in Northwest Austin that is perfect for what I am looking for. However, I landed a nice job in the New Braunfels area. The landlord says it would take at least an hour and a half to get there in the morning up to two hours.. I know it's a decent drive, but how long does everyone else think it would be?

If you avoid Austin and go East to 130, you could make it around an hour and a half, but is that a good quality of life? Do you want to sit in that much traffic morning and evening? You can probably find something just as comparable in South Austin and cut that drive down to 30-45 minutes.

It is definitely not worth the commute. You are looking at an hour and a half to two hours each way, every day, (with traffic). That is up to 20 hours a week in commute time, which is insane!

I would recommend that you look into far South Austin, Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, New Braunfels, N or NE San Antonio, Shertz, Live Oak, Cibolo, Selma, or Universal City.

Don't do it. The wear and tear on the car, and yourself, would be immense. 90 minutes to two hours would be the typical time. The hardest part, especially in the evening, would be crossing Austin, especially from 1626 onwards. We go to NB often, always on the weekend, we live south of the river in Austin. The trip there is always around 45 minutes, but the return even on weekends, it is very unpredictable. Once you hit the outskirts of Austin, traffic can slow to a crawl. It has taken us 90 minutes to get home on a Sunday evening!! Gabetx gave good recommendations of alternative possibilities to live.

It took me an hour on a Saturday at 6 am to get from wells branch to new braunfels. That sounds horrible, but it's all based on the OP's perspective.

If you haven't signed a lease yet in Jolleyville, I suggest looking in the Buda/Kyle area. Or even San Marcos.

I'd lean towards San Marcos, Seguin or even NB itself.

Agreeing with the others...no bueno...even less bueno when it's 100 degrees for the drive!(That'll be in about 4-5 weeks, if you're wondering).

Just a traffic related comment here. I frequently drive from NE San Antonio to north New Braunfels, and that 15 or so miles can be miserable at times as well. Other day there a single DPS trooper a few cars ahead of me maintaining the posted limit... and not only did everybody else mind their speed, but there was a whole lot less jockeying for position going on. For the first time since I can't even remember when, the flow was smooth the whole ride. So yeah, a lot of vehicles is part of the problem, but people that don't know how to act may be just as big a part.
