Well, it didn't get any better than this: 1996. The year I first visited Austin as well as this poster, Austin was a city full of hippies and slackers, Hipsters either weren't born or were in diapers, and the slacker culture predominated.

A trip back memory lane:

I would say Austin's heyday would run from about 1970 to 1980.

There were no "hippies" in Austin in 1996. Austin's best time was the 1970s into the 80s. After that, it went downhill.

Year Zero is the definition of heyday for Austinites, as in the exact moment they arrived.

I know Liberty lunch has been long gone, but did that historical building next to it get torn down too?

cBach - check out "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" if you haven't before....that's my favorite time travel video.

What about the 60's? What was it like then? I would never have thought 1996 was the "heyday" for any place really, (no offense)...but then I'm old so whadawino?

Explain. Last I checked, Austin has a very low unemployment rate, low crime rate, and has grown immensely since those days.

The stuff that happened in the 1960s in New York and California happened in the 70s in Texas.

March 28th, 1976 Austin TX between 9:45am and 2:12pm.

That was the best time in Austin.
