It's just that humid subtropical climates also have the added advantage of plentiful summer rainfall. You basically get all the benefits of the Med climate, but without the worry of drought and irrigation; this is why the largest populations on Earth all reside in humid subtropical locales (i.e. Shanghai, Tokyo, Delhi, etc).
