Good thing, because I was saying just the opposite!

I've lived in too much country and too much city and known too many people in both to fall for that stereotype!

I dont know if my point came across or not, but just to be clear, I was using sarcasm, the way alot of folks from the city use to think about folks from the country, being backwards and ignorant. Back in the 50's, 60's and 70's, there was alot of people who thought like that, but around the mid 80's that began to change, when communication technology became so advanced that it reached nearly every corner, nook and cranny, of the country, including the most isolated places in the country. It's not like that anymore. No place is no longer so isolated that the people who live there don't know what's going on in the world.

Anybody who thinks somebody is naive and ignorant to the ways of the world simply because they live so far out in the country is only fooling theirselves.

Thing is (having lived in the country and small towns back in the 1950's/1960's, as well as recently), they always were fooling themselves.

I travel... a lot. One of the things I get asked all the time is if I have horses or if I like country music. The answer to both is no. I'm sure it doesn't help that I am a seventh generation Texan, but Austin is so diverse now that I don't think we feel like the rest of the state. Austin is my favorite city in Texas. I've lived all over the state and Austin has always felt like home. Is it hot? Yes... for about 2-3 months out of the year. Is the traffic terrible? Oh yeah (although my clients from California laugh at the traffic). Are we lacking in mass transit? Absolutely.

But Austin has a lot to offer. We have Formula 1, ACL, SXSW, a world class college and lots of tech. A broker friend of mine owns a home in Portland and here in Austin. He says those are his two favorite cities. Homes are much more affordable here and there is no state income tax although our property taxes are a bit high. We are definitely growing by leaps and bounds but there is a reason so many people are continuing to move here.
