My wife and I just bought our first home, we'll be moving to Wells Branch the first weekend of May.

I would like to have a green lawn for part of this year. When is the best time to fertilize? We have St. Augustine grass. I've already spoken with the current owner (we don't close until 4/29) and he is ok with me working on the yard before we own the home.

On a side note, as a 1st time buyer, do you have any recommendations or things to watch out for as we approach our move-in day? Anything I should definitely do (to the house, or packing-wise) before the move-in weekend?

We're very comfortable with our agent and the closing, my above questions are more for the actual move. Thanks for your thoughts.

Congrats!

Before move in day, schedule to have the carpets cleaned two days prior to move in. Expect to clean every square inch of the house prior to move it. It goes much easier.

My wife would want to put down shelf liner on all the shelves in the kitchen and closests as well.

The grasses are just starting to green up now. Lots of folks seem to be putting weed and feed on their lawns. Both Home Depot and Lowes are brimming full of bags of it.

Now is the time of year to weed-n-feed, but we don't usually need to do anything. Every few years, a single light application takes care of any 'issues'. If the lawn is already in good shape, I would not worry about it at all. If it is in poor shape, it will take some research to see what you need to get it like you want it.
