They want to keep (broken link) all the annoying, stinky homeless people who bug the living crap out of everyone who just wants to be left alone, but they want to get rid of (broken link) a group of hippies in a neat RV park near downtown that has been there for decades.

Nothing to do with the 'city', just the land owner wanted to make some money...can't really blame her. Her property, her choice....Sad to see it go, though, just the same.

Anyway, I don't see the articles as that different, really, both are about personal freedom of choice...

pretty soon everything that's cool and worth living by will be replaced by condos that are only convenient to other condos.

That's so true...and the best way to stop the panhandling is for people to stop giving cash to panhandlers.

That's how it works. I remember a time when there was a great mountain bike trail over at Bull Creek, off of 360. They shut it down to "save the golden cheek warbler bird". They said the small amount of bicycles might scare them off. That's a load of crap... B/c a few years later they built apartments/condos on it. I was thinking, "yea, bikes will scare the bird to extinction, but not those bulldozers, buidings and cars." It all has to do with $$$$$

Me too. But it makes me feel bad...I need to get my kids to help make small bags of food or other necessities we can hand out.

That Shady Grove Park is on a beautiful piece of property...I wish they were putting something else there besides 6 story condos.

many of us parked our campers at shady grove to really get to enjoy the acl festival.....bummer. guess i'll just have to buy one of those condo's!
actually the family had many opportunities to sell that property and of course they knew the day would come when the taxes would be too much for them to keep it, so they tried to wait until they connected with a developer that would develope it with the lowest density possible arrived with the right offer.

as to panhandlers in austin.........you all need to suck that up, there are no bums in austin, if you wanna see bums join me on my current visit to california. THERE APPEARS TO BE A BUM EXPLOSION HERE
