Austin doesn't have a 12.5% unemployment rate.

How can you possibly say L.A. when you haven't been there? Just because someone tells you something, does that make is so? What are you basing this on? I know both areas, everyone has his/her own idea, I can't see why anyone would take Los Angeles over Austin except for the weather.

Well, I prefer Austin, but I can see plenty of reasons why people would choose LA over Austin:
  • Weather (this is a huge one!)
  • Beaches/Ocean
  • Job variety and opportunities
  • Quality and variety of restaurants and bars
  • Entertainment opportunities and options
  • Cultural (museums/symphony/etc)

I'm sure this list just scratches the surface. LA is a major city and has the plusses and minuses associated with most major cities.

I would probably take San Diego over Austin if it weren't for the cost of living difference but LA? No way. I lived in a city, Washington D.C., with more sports teams, cultural opportunities, and ethnic restaurants than Austin but they really don't add up to much as far as day-to-day living is concerned. Its better to live in a great neighborhood with parks/greenspace and good local businesses which is something I can afford here.

Job opportunities, now? Are you serious? Cultural life, yes, weather, of course and the Ocean, but there are positives about Austin that you will not find in Los Angeles as well.

People forget that the Pacific Ocean in CA is actually quite cold. I was in La Jolla a month ago and wet suits were definitely a requirement.
