I wonder if it's unsafe to brush your teeth, as long as there are no open cuts in the mouth and the water gets spit out and rinse the mouth out with listerine?
My son lives in Panama City Beach, and they just came off the boiled water requirement. It was OK to shower, but they suggested brushing your teeth with bottled water. So yeah, I'd say it's unsafe. Probably OK, but possibly not. Might as well err on the side of caution.

They are begging people to cut down on all water use right now....the demand is outstripping the plants ability to produce water by about 15% and we could lose water altogether, it sounds like....

This is really sounding awful.
I am in Atlanta right now and I left on Friday... it rained the entire 16 hour drive to Georgia.

I'm supposed to be coming back tomorrow morning but with all of this happening, is it really a good idea? It sounds like water is going to be hard to find and food may be too. Should I just wait it out in Atlanta?

The water issues will be here all week. Even after they get the pressure and water clarity back they have to flush out the system.

It is astounding to me that a city of almost 1 million people can't provide fresh water for its residents. We've had floods before, why is this the first time this is happening? Is it suspicious to anyone else that the boil water order came on Monday morning after COTA and all the rich foreigners were on their way out this weekend? Holy crab, our local government can ban plastic bags, declare sanctuary city status, coddle every developer with million dollar condo plans, and the Mayor can hang out at Beto rallies, meanwhile our infrastructure is totally failing us, apparently for years. KXAN may be doing a story on this. Wake up folks! This election matters not only nationally, but locally. Your politicians are failing you miserably. Think about that as your boiling water so your kids and pets can drink water safely. This is outrageous!

I agree. Boil your water because of debris? Really?

Come on out to the normally placid Lake Travis and watch the current. Come out and watch all the debris floating by the water's edge. Come watch a normally clear lake be as dirty as the Mississippi. This was a catastrophic flood in case you didn't realize.

I realize that. Just wonder with all the progressives in local government they didn't anticipate the effects of climate change and ASKED THE QUESTION what do we need to do to prepare. Oh, wait a minute, soccer club...

Well, to handle this scenario would require greatly increasing the capacity/systems/etc of the water treatment plants, resulting in a massive increase in capital cost AND ongoing increases in maintenance costs for the larger plant (which is needed every, oh...27 years or so?). And no one even wanted to pay for the treatment plant we have (arrggh! boondoggle!). Damned if you do, damned is you don't.

And how much is the city spending on the soccer team...?
