We are coming to Austin on our first house hunting trip this saturday...we have seen all the maps but i figured the people living here in Austin would have a more realistic idea of how best to look around. We are starting in Steiner Ranch/ River Place...my wife likes this area the best and wants to start there. SO...after that would it be easier to go towards Lakeway and those areas OR would it be more efficient to head up towards Avery Ranch, etc. and ultimately up and over to Crystal Falls? We hope to see them all...but who knows...we have limited time to find something and want to try and make most informed decision as possible.

Well, Lakeway is right down the road from Steiner Ranch, so if you're going to look there, if it were me, for ease of travel and conservation of fuel and time I'd start with Lakeway and then hit Steiner, then River Place, and then head on down to Avery Ranch and Crystal Falls, to save backtracking.

My husband and I live in Killeen which is 45 north of Austin. We head into Austin every now and then and love the Round Rock area. We figure if we end up in Austin that is where we would live.

Our start point is San Antonio from the grandparents house....seriously though, we will meet the realtor somewhere around Balcones country club..i dont know the exact area....so i guess heading out to lakeway and working our way back is the plan....

if we are looking in the 400k to 500k range...i suppose there are plenty of neighborhoods in the leander school district to hit...yes?

And I'll raise your 2 cents and say that visiting River Place, and not visiting Steiner Ranch would not give the full picture of the area. You have to look in both neighborhoods.

Kensaggie, when you visit Steiner Ranch, make sure you check out the new 3rd community center, it is awesome and I think represents a lot of the neighborhood's values. The land utilized could have easily housed about 10-15 very premium lots, but instead is there for all to enjoy, and the view of the preserve area is nice, especially if you are used to foothill types of views.

Default plan around work

I think it's best to make sure work is not too far away. Traffic can be bad during certain hours around 4:15pm to 6:30pm. It's a nice thing to know

For the money, go check out Crystal Falls. The homes down the steep hill by the golf course is way better then the homes at Steiner or even Circle C.

You'll love them if it fits your guy's budget.
