For decades people have been pouring into the Austin area and developers keep building more and more multifamily apartments, but the government can't plan more that a few months in advance.

I can't believe all the folks from LA and Silicon Valley, expected to face the same overcrowding issues and spiraling inflation that they left behind to settle in Austin.
The environmentalist and car-hating, bicycle crowd has been dictating the road & street policies in Austin for 40 years, that’s why.

I've been popping into a Camp Gladiator Camp at Austin First Church which, I think, is Del Valle. Most of the people I work out with are from Del Valle and I hear their complaints. (I'm driving out there from southeast Austin). But I feel it in their souls. I complain about driving to a Target. I can't imagine not having a grocery store. That goes for those in 78724, too.

I lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico 1950-54, Taipei, Taiwan 1957-59, Monterrey, Mexico 1960-61, and Giddings, Texas 1967-69. So the lack of any amenities is no stranger to me.

I dunno, I grew up miles and miles from a grocery store....or any store, really. It doesn't seem to be the end of the world to get groceries by driving a few minutes. I suppose all those people living in rural Texas must be miserable.

Or those who live in an area ignored by local chains because of income.

You cannot force a private business to build in a location where they will undoubtedly lose money... at least until it develops.
Blame the accountants and stockholders.
