Can anyone tell my anything about being a paramedic in Austin? I’m currently a certified EMT in Seattle, but we are moving to Austin soon and I’d like to step up to being a paramedic there in the Lone Star state. All that I know is that one must attend a private program to become a paramedic, and that it takes about 2 years; but any information that anyone could offer beyond this about either becoming a paramedic in Austin/Travis County or working as a paramedic in Austin/Travis County would really be helpful to me. Specifically, my questions at this time would be:

· Are there any schools/programs in particular that are better/more respected than others?
· How difficult is it to get a job once having completed a degree program?

Any other info you would care to offer I would gratefully accept!

There are also several other counties around Austin/Travis proper that are in need of paramedics and police officers with all the growth going on. I know that the fire station near me trains for Hutto and Round Rock and Williamson County has built several new hospitals so I'm sure you won't have any problems finding work. I think there's probably a shortage of EMT's.

I work in that field and can say that ACC has the best Paramedic Program around hands down. They work in conjunction with ATCEMS and always have openings! If you need any more info just PM me and I will get back to you!
