Not everyone. IF DW worked in Jarrell, I'd move farther north in a flash.

I wouldn’t want to live in Austin if I worked that far away either. But, also, I’m thinking of people in the northeast who make crazy commutes across state lines who think nothing of those distances. OP hasn’t said where he’s coming from, or even come back to give us as update.

I make crazier commutes

Although Temple > Austin isn’t something I’d wish on anyone, those commute distances weren’t uncommon in Atlanta, Seattle, San Francisco and Chicago either. I used to do 50 mile one way commute in Atlanta between the suburb of Stockbridge and Alpharetta, and then from Conyers to Athens GA (which is apart of Atlanta’s CSA), as well as Lawrenceville to Kennesaw. In fact it wasn’t until I moved to Austin that I’ve ever in my life had a commute under 45 minutes. In Seattle I used to do Tacoma to Bothell and also Bellevue.

One of my brothers just moved into a new 3,400 sq/ft custom built 4 br, 3.5 bathroom house on the west side of Georgetown- off Williams drive & Jim Hogg Road (behind the Randalls supermarket) in a neighborhood called The Woods. The lots are mostly 1 acre plus and it is pretty nice. He paid $700,000.

He’s trying to keep up with our oldest brother who lives in Woodland Park next to Sun City. I’m just the poor one who has to slum it in the Meadows of Brushy Creek.

Oldest bro’s 3,200 sq/ft one bedroom custom built house with 4 car garage on 1.2 acres:
(The old curmudgeon doesn’t like to have overnight houseguests. Lol)

Can't help but wonder how easy or difficult it would be to sell that if he ever decided to.

He (age 82) doesn’t care what his kids do with the house after he’s gone. He has no plans to ever move out until he dies.
Obviously the OP would never buy a white elephant like that for their family. But there are plenty of family friendly homes in that neighborhood with kids. Some fancy backyard playscapes with nice swimming pools,

I'd say buy in Georgetown. Lots of communities to choose from. Cimmaron is a very expensive master planned community that might be worth looking into.

Here in Colorado Springs it's the same. Lots of commuters travel from CS to Denver and vice-versa. It reminds me of so much of Austin, lots of freeway construction.
