Recently bought some agricultural land near Lampasas, looking to get a small cabin built for weekend stays (and maybe short-term rental in the future).

Does anyone have recommendations on builders? I'm new to this and would like someone who can talk us through the options (cottage vs log cabin vs bardominium etc.).

Thanks, they just say on their website they aren't bidding on new projects for now. I spoke to a cabin builder I found online recently and they are solidly booked for another 11 months!

take a look at the contractors underground facebook group. Lots of contractors on their looking for work and bad contractors can get booted. You still need to do due diligence, dont pay all upfront, etc.

Got a bro-n-law in the tree business up there, if you need any clearing/trimming. H & H Tree Service(Up Your Tree). Lucien(Luke) Hodges is your guy. He's been in Lometa/Lampasas for a couple of decades, I reckon...knows everybody! Might even have a contact for your build. His home is a barndo-style build.

We're now thinking of putting a permanent luxury glamping tent, anyone has experience or recommendations?

I've come across places like https://www.outstandingtent.com/, https://www.yuntutent.com/glampingtent.html, https://www.exclusivetents.com, https://luxuryandglampingtents.com/, https://www.tentsxpert.com/glamping-tents/ and a whole lot more. There are way too many choices, hoping someone here is knowledgeable about them.

I've been in one of the geodesic dome tents. They are nice (but not cheap) and can accommodate solar and a wood stove, or electrical setup. They do require a deck or hard surface built underneath.

Plumbing is still a separate undertaking, however. Lifespan of the geodesic tent is estimated 15 years+ if well cared for. With a cottage or bardominium, you'd spend much more but it won't need to be replaced and you can plumb it and insulate it better. I guess the best solution depends on how you plan to use it and how much you're willing to invest.

Thank you, that's helpful! Those dome tents do look great
