I WANT TO FIND SOMEWHERE BEAUTIFUL IN TEXAS THAT I GET THE MOST FOR MY BUCK...

SO I STUMBLED UPON AUSTIN.

AS RELOCATING MY FAMILY AND FINDING A NEW JOB IN TRUCKING.

I NEVER BEEN TO TEXAS BUT COMING FROM NYC THE REAL ESTATE IS PRIME THERE...

I HAVE SEARCHED FOR AREAS WITHIN GEORGETOWN,ROUND ROCK ETC..

I JUST HAVE NO CLUE ON WHAT ITS REALLY LIKE...

AND I DON'T MIND THE HEAT.

AS I HAVE READ SO MANY NEGATIVES ON AUSTIN I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE 10 POSITIVES

If you have to be "sold" on the place, maybe it's not for you.

I don't know if I can come up with 10 but I'll start :

1. The realestate, although higher than most of the rest of Texas and substantially so, is much less than NYC.

2. It is close to many less crowded places like Fredricsburg, Kerrville, and Blanco.

3. Lots of IT jobs (don't know about trucking though).

4. Lake Austin and Lake Travis ,some good food, and great place to party.

5. Less humid than more coastal areas.

6. Its not swampy or subject to intense hurricanes.

7. UT football is the best (some Aggies may argue this point)

8. Probably not the worst traffic in Texas

9. The Trans Texas Corridor may miss it (this is getting tuff as I've avoided Austin since I took my boards).

10. If you might like California this place is as close as you'll get to Berkley, California east of .... well ... Berkley!

Whew .... that's my 10!

1. Educated, intelligent population (due to UT and the numerous colleges around and the people they attract)

2. If you get bored with the topography, drive in 50 miles in any one of five or so directions and you can find something completely different with a beauty of a different kind.

3. Food. In addition to Tex/Mex, Interior Mexican, and BBQ, we have quite a variety of restaurants of various kinds. (I belong to a foodie group that eats out regularly, as well as having potlucks, and so far we haven't duplicated types of cuisine.)

4. Outdoor living. We have the lakes, hike and bike trails, trails for more serious hiking nearby, great area for bicycling (just ask Lance Armstrong or any of his numerous groupies in the area ), etc., etc., etc.

5. While our real estate market is softening somewhat, we didn't have the insane "ups" leading to the equally insane "downs" - we've had nice, steady growth that is easing up a bit.

6. Our economy is pretty good, all things considered.

7. 11 month growing season.

8. Located an easy drive from Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, for the amenities those offer, without having to live there.

9. Small town living is available nearby in any of a number of small communities.

10. Let us not forget the music.

Sorry, I can't help you. I can't even think of one positive, let alone 10.

My husband drives a truck and it's competitive out here. Whatever you do, don't base all you do on Dell. The company my husband works for based a lot of what it did depending on Dell and it's been a bit of a problem. Luckily they didn't limit themselves to contracting with them solely, but it has caused him to have to drive to Dallas and San Antonio more often and do a few more overnights. There are lots of trucking and freight companies here and also lots of construction, which is bringing lots of trucks associated with that. He also is going to probably sell his current truck and buy a larger one to stay competitive.

1) Growing a developing quickly, Texas Cities such as Austin, Fort Worth, and San Antonio are really taking off... Houston and Dallas to a lesser degree

2)If you're liberal... you're not alone... if you're conservative... you can find strong conservative communities outside of Austin.

3)Vibrant, young people's town. Your kids will be instate and will be granted automatic admission to UT (or A&M... the top Texas Public schools) without contemplation in they make the top 10%...

4)Close to San Antonio, Not too far from DFW airport or HOU airport if you need a huge major airport.

5) PRICES... something you should be familiar with...

6)warm weather... depending on what you want this can be good or bad...

7)Not to far from the Ocean...a fairly decent one...

8)cuisine is different

9)The weather from late September to late is AWESOME

10)You have access you a large river, a forest, plains, the Beach, Mountains, and Waterfalls within a vicinity of Austin...
