Hi guys I am 23 trying to get into UT, Like I have said in many posts, I am from Spain. And maybe I will move there if I get in. Now thing is. Is Austin boring for young people, I live in Madrid a pretty good capital of fashion and things, pretty much like NY but smaller. Now I am worried of getting in at UT but finding Austin boring ( yes I know getting at UT is pretty hard but I have got to make sure I will be able to balance school with a good social life)

Thanks a lot, and please take in mind I am 23

Daniel

I'm guessing it sort of depends on what you're looking for. I've certainly never found it so, in the last 40 years. My son, who lived in NYC for several years, recently moved back and he doesn't seem to find it so (though he does miss some things in NYC, which he loved, he finds other things here that he missed living there, so it all evens out).

Try reading the Austin Chronicle for a while. It might give you a little bit of an idea of what's available here. Also Austin Monthly. For food, check out the Austin boards of Chowhound and Yelp.

Austin isn't boring if you're adventurous but you have to be willing to try new things. As well, Austin is NOTHING like NYC; but that, I think, would ruin the atmosphere for most Austinites. Austin doesn't strive to be a city of high-maintence people, but rather a laid back, hippie filled, always different, always weird, never quite you'd expect kind of place. We have MANY lakes, infinite hike and bike trails, man made pools, extensive shopping, fun historical museums, and a club district mouths water over. But truly if you want to have fun here, you have to get out and meet people, try new things, and allow yourself to see everything.

I don't live there yet, but when I visited I saw a lot of bars & brewpubs, restaurants, interesting movie theaters (that have events constantly going on), places to see live music, and tons of good-looking (and average-looking, heh) friendly people.

I was also recently in NYC and it is very different. Austin has less hustle & bustle, but it thrives in its own unique way. It may be laid-back, but I wouldn't call it a sleepy town, by any means. The people here (in Austin) seem happier, too.
