summertime, heat, and laziness...all reasons to cut off long hair.

can anyone recommend a salon or stylist for cool, funky, short hair?

I once went to a salon called Hairy Situations on S Congress when I lived there, and I liked the stylist okay...but they are $50 just for a simple trim/cut, nothing like a new style, just a trim...and they were super, super crowded and kept me waiting for a long time. the fact that they offer free samosas (the alcoholic drink, not the Indian appetizer) was of no consolation to me...

I just saw a fantastic cut on a woman near the Hotel San Jose on South Congress, and I asked her where she got her hair cut...and she said, "Houston."

Oh well.... Anyone have a short cut that they love?

I popped into "Pink" on South Congress (near the Austin Motel) the other day to have them fix my bangs. (apparently I am doomed to make the same mistake of trying to cut my own bangs over and over and over again)

It was a very "hip" place and everyone was very nice. But they charged me $25 to trim my bangs. No shampoo. No drying. No styling. It took 10 or 15 minutes.

So, I don't know what the cost is for a "real" haircut, but I imagine it's pretty expensive.

HOWEVER, I personally would spend a lot of money on a really good new hairstyle. Especially if it's a short one. But I don't want to spend a lot on a trim.

Just my two cents.

Default mimosas

yes, mimosas, exactly. hilarious mistake.

I guess I shouldn't have typed last night after drinking a gallon of mimosas and eating a dozen samosas. obviously not thinking clearly...

still need a haircut, though, not a drink nor a snack...

I just got my hair cut short. Short in the back, longer in the front, no layering. Shampoo and blow dry. Granted, the concept for the cut was mine (I used to wear it before I grew it out). $25. I'm happy, happy, happy.

PM me if you are interested in the person's info.

I recommend Toni and Guy at Barton Creek. Although they are closed right now for refurbishing.

Haircuts start at around 40, BUT you can go in for free retexturing and bangs trim which for me means I only need to pay for a haircut every 12 weeks or so. I got such a funky crop there! It was so cool even hipsters asked me who cut my hair ;-).

I also recommend Baldwins beauty school on s lamar, near half price books. There, for five dollars, a senior student will cut your hair. They do color too. They are all nearly qualified, and eager to do well.
