Hey all - I am in a desperate need of a good butcher. HEB is nice, but I need better.

I searched Google, but not one of the places has good reviews. Close to Far West would be nice, but anywhere in Austin is just fine.

Thanks.

Igor

There's a place out near liberty hill that a friend of ours bought from and really loved. I can't remember the name, but we may go by their house tonight so I'll ask her.

Have you checked out Central Market? It's owned by HEB but the meat is much higher quality (and more expensive ).

Maurice Allen used to have a gourmet market and full meat counter on Far West. He is now the lead butcher at Central Market and could no doubt cut anything you want.

CM would be my first choice also but there's also a small family owned butcher shop in the quaint shopping center at 38th and Jefferson.

Definitely one of the things missing here in Austin; a good neighborhood butcher shop!

The HEB on Parmer and McNeil has a piddly 8ft section that plays host to maybe ten different choices of meats. It's a shame that there are no good butcher shops around town!

I'm just jealous that you have a real kosher meat section at your HEB.

Or go to Sunset Valley Farmer's Market and get some real local grass fed beef/pork from the area farmers.

Default Good Meat Market/Butcher

I know this is an older post - but you might try Lee's Meat Market on W. 38th Street. It used to be called Cooper's Meat Market - I think it's all the same, just changed the name

or a bit farther from Far West - Johnny G's Meat Market on Manchaca
