We are relocating to Austin next month and are considering buying a home at Domain at the Ranch in Brushy Creek (in reality it is Cedar Park). Any feedback on this community would be great! Thanks

I think you might have two areas confused.
One area is the Domain. Located at Mopac and Braker, it is a combination of apartments over retail stores. There are NO units for sale. They are 100% rentals. Some nearby neighborhoods are the highly desirable Balcones Woods, Mesa Park, and Mustang Ridge.
Another area is the Ranch at Brushy Creek. This new-ish subdivision is located about 15 minutes north-west of the Domain off Parmer and Brushy Creek. The homes are nice, more updated than the areas I mentioned above, and a bit more expensive (on average).
Hope that helps. Feel free to DM me if you have specific questions about each area.

Eric

He does not have areas confused. There is a gated section of Ranch @ Brushy Creek called The Domain at Ranch at Brushy Creek. Say that five times real fast.

OP,
It, like R@BC and many of the nearby neighborhoods, is a solid area, provided you work north of 183/MoPac. That gated section is ridiculously over-priced, IMO.

No, there actually is a "Domain" at Ranch at Brushy Creek as well. Standard Pacific is the builder. I agree that the title of this thread is misleading.

It's a very nice community that feeds into an excellent Elementary and Middle School as well as a good High School. There is a large Indian presence there especially down the street in the Grove section. It's very safe of course as well. The commute to downtown from there keeps getting worse as the main negative.

Sorry for the misleading title. It's the name they use for that subdivision. It is the gated community that feeds to the 10 rated school. The gates are of interest to us as our child has special needs and is overly friendly with strangers.
Any similar communities you would recommend that is not overpriced? Looking for great schools for both mainstream and special education. Both kids are 4 years old. Husband works in the NE of Austin. I will start looking for work after relocation next month.

The houses just outside the gates that are always open go to the same schools, for $100K less.

And "NE of Austin" if that's near 183/290, you're looking at a brutal commute.

This depends entirely on where you're commuting to. I was unable in looking at the OP's other posts to find that information.

No specific location mentioned. In fact, last month, the OP was looking for info on the Research Triangle area in North Carolina. What a difference in climate when compared to Austin.

Well it is very true we were relocating to NC until my husband's employer decided to retain him and relocate us to Austin which we love.

Husband's work is in NE Austin. His Coworkers say it is a 20 minute commute from Round Rock. Coming from the Bay Area anything in the 40 minutes range of commute is short commute. The goal is Great schools and safety. Looking for home in 500-550K range.

Thanks much everyone

Can you give us approx. cross streets (of the work)?

You've mentioned CP, RR, Steiner (& Lakeline NW area). You've mentioned the need for children special needs.

550K will probably buy you a nice situation, but WHERE in NE Austin is the work. ("20 min. commute from RR" isn't helpful since it can take 25 min. to commute THROUGH RR). Heck he might work in Taylor for all we know.

If I had 4 y/o's, I'd be renting for a year. Scope out the towns, schools, special needs, snag your job so YOUR commute isn't bad, buy from a position of power at your leisure instead of stress.
