Hello all,
I was just curious how the job market for graphic designers is out there? What is the cost of living in the area as well? To rent? Nightlife? I am 26 years old, single and I have been debating a big move... I want to be well equipped when I make the decision between Denver, Sacramento and Austin. (I am moving from Naperville, IL) The biggest reservations I have with Texas is the heat. I lived in MD for 6 years where it was very humid and I got used to it... I am sure I will get used to it.. but will I miss the cold weather??? AHH. Anyone else made a move from IL to TX recently?? I am looking for any and all advice one can give me!
Thanks!

Jordann, our fields are closely related. I'm an Art-Director who focuses on TV, Radio and Print. I Worked in NYC, Miami and now Europe.

I have been searching google for various agencies and writing the directors within. Not sure if you'll need to find a job right away, but for me, I am letting them know I am coming and would like to meet for coffee once I arrive.

In our field, which relies alot on chemistry, I would rather meet for a drink, and if we like each other it could lead to something, or a referral to someone who is hiring.

As for getting a CD's e-mail address, that just requires a little imagination... What I haven't found out is a definitive pay schedule for the area.

Here's some places to look. Good luck!

Maybe check out craigslist for Austin...you might get some leads or a feel for the market there as well.

Jordann, the weather here in Austin reminds me very much of a Chicago summer, except it lasts longer here (I lived in Chicago for 28 years).

HTH!

Go watch "the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"...it is about La Grange (or at least about a local business ). But, yes, it is in the middle of nowhere. The Colorado river runs through the area, so you can do some canoeing/fishing.
