I have recently moved to the Austin area. I am looking for a hair stylist that can work with African American hair. My main goal is to find a stylist that concentrates on hair health and maintenance and not necessarily the latest trends. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I would try out Salons Unique on 183 and Anderson Mill. My wife use to work there and we met a couple of "Katrina evacuees" who settled in Austin and who were working there. They always looked busy and they were very friendly. The manager there is named Jenny and she will point you in the right direction. Good luck.

I am unearthing this thread to see if anyone has any recommendations on african american hair salons in the South and/or central Austin area that focus on healthy hair and can do roller sets, twist sets, spiral sets, etc. TIA!

I recently moved to the Austin area & I am DYING for someone who does roller sets... I could get a roller set & a wrap for $15 at home... Now I'm paying $50 for a wash & wrap - bananas!

Come on - I know there have been people who have responded to posts lik this in the past. (: Any suggestions on african american hair salons who focus on healthy hair in South or central Austin? I would love to not have to drive someplace up north for 30-40 mins in traffic to get my hair done!

TIA!

[SIZE=3]@Tia: I hear you... I drive 30 minutes just to get my eyebrows threaded. I would have no problem going even further to get my hair done. If only I had a stylist/salon . Back home - I'd drive an hour & a half to go into NYC to get my hair done. SOMEBODY out here has to have some recommendations for us.

I'm not sure about South Austin but in North Austin, there is a barbershop on Parmer and Lamplight Village called Hair Studio. They primarily cut hair but I think they have 1 or 2 seats in the back that is used for women's hair. If they don't, then they would refer you to a place. I know that the owner owned a beauty shop in Pflugerville at one time but i'm not sure if they still do.

I'd recommend Shear Envy in Round Rock It's a very nice place and professional. Ken is the name of the barber there.
