I'm getting sick of working out with weights in a gym these days and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for alternative fitness classes that are offered in the area. The only alternative regime I have ever tried is Yoga, so recommendations in that area are especially welcome. Also, I would like to hear any suggestions you have regarding other types, like Kung Fu, Kick Boxing, etc (anything you can think of). I'm looking for something fun and a good way to pass the time. I would prefer something affordable (even though I know it's a relative term), but just use your best judgement.

You may want to try the YMCA in your area.

Lifetime Fitness has a class called Strike, it is the BEST class I have ever been to. The South Austin one has an awesome instructor. You do of course have to be a member of the gym, but trust me after being a member of Lifetime then trying the YMCA ... Lifetime is 100 times better.

24HR Fitness has a wide variety of great classes and they are all included in your monthly membership fee.

Are you looking for just a fitness "kickboxing" class or are you truly looking for a martial arts school. If it's the later, try Relson Gracie JJ (South Austin) or Valquez Academy (North Austin). Top notch instructors and not a McDojo or "Kickingboxing" class. I know Gracie JJ is $90 a month for 4 times a week of Brazilian JJ instruction and $130 unlimited. Yes, higher than a gym, but you are being instructed by a MMA fighter. It would be equilvalent of being trained by a personal trainer at a local gym 4-5 times a month.
