I am going to Austin in two weeks and need to start looking at apartments for the big move at the beginning of the summer. I found many extremely nice apartments/condos on craigslist for northwest austin. I feel like it might be too good to be true. Are they extremely far northwest? Or are they just not explaining the different levels of apartments at each complex. Has anyone experienced this? Also, does anyone have any suggestions for property management companies to set up apartment showings with?

Rent is a good deal here, but if it looks to good too be true it probably is. You are right thinking that these deals might be in the very far NW area. That's typical for craigslist and other sources that appeal to out-of-town relocations -- they will use pretty broad terms for places like "NW Austin" or "The Arboretum Area".. so you could end up kind of far away. Check the map if you can.

As far as property managers/leasing agents.. I don't have a specific recommendation, but if you are looking for something in particular (like urban neighborhoods, student areas, etc) pick a leasing agent accordingly. Maybe someone can DM you a recommendation.

I would suggest working with a locator service - they're free to you, and I had a good experience with one. Search this board for threads with "apartment locator" or "locator" - good luck!

You can also check out this website. It has a map of apartments and it is color coded by rent so you can get a pretty good idea of what you can expect to pay in the NW part of town

Good Luck
