I just completed my masters degree in educational leadership and will seek a school level administrative position (assistant principal/principal) in the area. In looking at job postings on the AISD website I see that they have a salary range. In Jersey the administrative salary guide it takes 4 years to get to the top of the pay scale for that position. My questions are:

1) Do they have many openings in the AISD?

2) How many steps in the administrative salary schedule?

3) Will head coaching experience help?

4) Do they hire middle and high school administrative candidates who do not have teaching experience in those areas?

5) Would it be more advantageous for a relocatee to find an administrative position in the Austin schools, or the Pflugerville/Round Rock area schools?

Thanks!

I can't really answer any of your questions directly, but I thought I'd mention that the Leander ISD is opening up two new elementary schools this fall plus a new high school in 2008 with more schools to come. Not sure if they are hiring or at what levels, but you might want to investigate there as well. Good luck.

madlion,

You might want to check the following url for available jobs: http://www.tasanet.org/applications/CareerCenter/?snItemNumber=782 (broken link) . It is the Career Center part of the Texas Association of School Administrators website; Austin area schools are in Region 13.

I asked my husband, who is a middle school principal (in Texas, but not in Austin), if he thinks head coaching experience would be helpful in getting an administrative position. He thinks it would.

You might just find what you are looking for!

Good luck ...

Central Texas is growing rapidly. There are plenty of admin jobs out there. The TASA site is the best for finding where they are. I would look all over the Austin area and go with the job rather than focus on the district. It's a really competitive field.

Coaching used to be a prerequisite for being a principal, but those days are over. (Thank goodness for me.) It doesn't hurt though!
