I can't help but wonder how much growth a city can absorb before it collapses under the weight of all the unemployed who are moving here hoping to find work?

You may need to clarify the post above. I don't think the national UR is 6.9% - if it was, the recession would be over. Our UR is 7% even though we lost a quarter of our jobs while tens of thousands of people moved here?

I saw that article, but it has Seattle as number two so I don't trust it. A gloomy place with an astronomical cost of living and a high percentage of self-important people? If that's number two, I don't think I can respect the magazine's criterion

Well perhaps if the city of Austin would stop throwing tens of millions of dollars at advertisers and media coverage, they might stop whining constantly about "budget shortfall". uuuugggg. Let's translate that. No money available for the "lesser Austin people who aren't rich".

The fact of the matter here is that if Austin was correctly represented by the media and the COA, it would NEVER make any top ten list (except maybe traffic congestion and high costs of living).
Of course, I have to wonder about a top ten list that includes Topeka, KS on it!
