Hi All,

I have a quick question that I'm hoping someone can help me out with. We will be moving to Cedar Park (and recently moved to Austin) and I just accepted a job in south east Austin (off of E. Riverside Drive). Since I haven't been out and about during rush hour, I am oblivious as to how congested the roads get and I'm trying to find the best route to drive to my new job. My shift will be 8 to 5. Does anyone have suggestions?

Here are the possibilities that I have considered, although again, I'm clueless as to the traffic situation and don't know if one is better than the other:

-620 to 2222 to 35 South to Riverside Drive (is it generally better to say on the highways and avoid roads like the 620 and 2222?)

-183 South to 35 South to Riverside Drive

-183 South to Mopac to Barton Springs Road to Riverside Drive

If anyone has driven the similar route and has any suggestions I would appreciate it. I am anticipating probably around a 45 min. drive but I don't know how accurate that is.

Thanks!
mud

Well we just rented a house off of 2243 in leander and hubby works at IBM roughly 183/Mopac and we have been told about 30 min drive time in traffic for this commute. We only rented since we are not sure about the commute or really were we need to be and I have been told that in 6-9 months things are moving toward being a buyers market so we shall see.

I don't commute, but I'd think that you're going way out of your way to take 620 to 2222 to I-35 from Cedar Park to get to work. You're traveling 15 minutes west and then basically going back southeast. 2222 can get pretty busy between 360 and 620, and after that you're going to hit tons of stoplights traveling east between 360 and I-35. I'd say without any major traffic that portion would be 20 minutes alone.

I would just go 183 to Mopac, exit 1st (cesar chavez) and then your choice of streets to cut over down to Riverside.

I have a client down in that area so have done the drive a number of times.

183 is not that bad of a road to drive on during rush hour. I35 and mopac are bad. If I had to choose though, I would take mopac over I35.

I personally would take 183 South all the way to montopolis, then E riverside dr.

I have also done 183 to lamar to airport and take airport all the way.

Airport is slower than 183 during off hours, but is much more consistent. You can sometimes get something that happens on 183 that slows it down.
