As you may (or may not) know, I'm neither a Republican or Democrat. Neither a Neoconservative or a liberal. I'm a small government libertarian: I reject offensive wars (Iraq, Afghanistan...) AND socialized health care. Basically, no one likes me.
I agree with your political views.

Right socialism. That's the problem.

I supposed you are against mail delivery, air traffic control, medicare, police and fire departments, social security and city parks as well.

Mail Delivery (USPS) is grossly inefficient (so I'm against it) and UPS & FedEx (and on-line bill paying/auto pay) has made USPS irrelevant. As for the other organizations, any government has to have certain controls to provide protective services to its population (perfectly set out in our constitution) like Air Traffic Control and Fire Dept. That does not constitution socialism (in of itself). However, social security is a farce IMO. I am just a middle-class guy (prior military and now a contractor) and I have been saving what I can and investing. I would be better along if I had what money I was forced to put in Social Security. That money is not invested and I won't see most of what I put in. It also has been grossly mismanaged. The concept of Social Security IS socialism. It is the redistribution of wealth by government. That very concept was anathema to our forefathers.

We're moving into more global political topics here, but mail delivery is in trouble, and yes, I should be trusted to invest for retirement. The latter is a good example of smaller government and individual choice being a better option.

the irony is that this type of rubbish masking as "political discourse" was never permitted anywhere close (I am talking within 4-5 blocks) of George Bush or Cheney or any one of his Cabinet or big Republican talking heads during the two Bush terms--
people coming to speeches and/or any type of public appearance were screened, and vetted to make sure there was no possiblity of any rational disagreeing voice--much less this rabble/rabid canned white noise--
these people don't have a clue what they are protesting--half of them or more don't even realize that Medicare is a govt sponsored health program...as is ANY retired military health program or anyone who retired working for a state agency...like retired teachers...
they are just lemmings being lead around by hate mongers...and the insurance lobbyists are hate mongers for the most part--irrational, emotional, knee-jerk reactionaries
just like the Republicans that were adgitating in FL when Bush/Gore recounts were going on and intimidating that process...
this is like Hitler's Brown Shirts cutting a swath through Germany -- getting people to be afraid and back down...
and the MEDIA is just perpetuating this crime against free speech because they are not presenting any logical, rational, front page stories that have the true picture of what is going on
people discount what happens on the editorial page or choose to believe what THEIR politically oriented news programs Fox vs MSNBC presents...
this is BAD--and to believe that is it is a groundswell of normal individuals is just stupid--
if they were asked to present their driver's licence and sign in with proof of ID and explain face to face with the speaker what they objections are--they would not do it--they don't want civil discourse--they want to do exactly what they are
jam up the presentation of a different point of view and the flow of information about what the realities of the situation are
they should be dispersed because they are disrupting the public event--just like hooligans at a soccer match or hockey game who throw stuff into the arena or start fights in the seats...

PS---jus think how happy people would have been if Bush's plan to privatize Social Security had gone through and people had the option of investing on their own for retirement--so many of them made bad choices with their available money that they suffered significant damage during the last market debacle--
I think turning SS over to total market forces would have been disasterous--maybe that is what Bush was hoping to do--really destroy the economy and make America very close to Germany's situation after the end of WWI--when it was ripe for a totalitarian state

Buildawg82 you stated you were against mail delivery (USPS) because it is grossly inefficient...
In case you hadn't noticed this week, over 600 Post Offices are closing in the USA. Add this to the already burgeoning unemployment lines filled with displaced workers from the auto industry, banking industry, manufacturing jobs, customer service call center people who lost their jobs due to outsourcing overseas etc.
You're sitting pretty right now with VA benefits which continue for life and presumably acquired a skill while you were in the services to continue with in civilian life. I might add that is all funded through the same system you decry for being socialist. Many hardworking people lost their retirement savings funds due to the stockmarket and shiesters like Madoff, they now face unemployment and little or no retirement/savings...that isn't due to paying social security or a socialist system that's due to CORPORATE GREED and a disregard for ALL in favor of the FEW.
At least there will be benefits they will be entitled to receiving. Do you begrudge those payments? I certainly don't begrudge VA benefits. How can you on one hand castigate the system for taking a small portion from your paycheck, yet accept VA benefits?? "What's good for the goose, is good for the gander"

My question now is... How will all these people get future employment? They need retraining if their existing skill is no longer needed - i.e. auto worker, mailman etc. Does a responsible society just look the other way and somehow magicly things will improve? Or too bad, as long as I'm alright Jack!

I marvel how you can extrapolate that from my question???
How about manning up and attempting to answer how a responsible society responds to the situation? I wouldn't presume to know what your thoughts on this matter are... surely that rhetorical question isn't it!
