Hi!
We are moving to Austin with our 6 and 8 year old...want a neighborhood where kids can play outside, good schools, fun parks etc. I will be commuting to 807 Las Cimas Pkwy and don't want to drive more than 15-20 minutes. Hubby works at home or travels for work. We will be leasing for the first 2 years so the actual home isn't as important as the location. Looking online we are considering the area around Oak Hill Elementary. Any thoughts? Other areas we should consider? I hear a lot about Circle C and Lakeway?

All are good neighborhoods and you should be able to find family friendly areas.

You might also want to consider Lost Creek, which would be less than 5 minutes commuting. Excellent schools (Eanes) and very family friendly neighborhood. Easy access to downtown, Zilker Park, etc, as well.

I have lived in the Oak Hill area since 1981 and have never regretted moving here. In addition to the areas you mentioned, I suggest you check out Legend Oaks just North of Circle C along Escarpment Blvd. This area has lots of hike and bike trails and small parks, there are almost always people of all ages out walking, jogging, biking, pushing baby strollers around the neighborhood.

Oak Hill is a very family oriented area with good schools and low crime. Access from Oak Hill into downtown, Loop 360, Lake Travis and the hill country is very good.

We recently realized that we could easily get from Oak Hill to Bee Caves Road (North of Las Cimas Pkwy) quicker and with less traffic by taking a scenic route through from Southwest parkway, via Barton Creek Blvd. over to Bee Caves Road. It is a very pretty drive. For you to get to Las Cimas it may work better to turn off Barton Creek Blvd. at Lost Creek Blvd. and take it to the Loop 360 intersection, just 1500 feet south of Las Cimas Pkwy.

We moved to Oak Hill last fall and really enjoy it. It's far enough out that you can enjoy some space but close enough that you can be in downtown Austin pretty quick. There are lots of families out here and all the public schools are good. (GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community).

You probably need to throw out a price range to get better recommendations of specific neighborhoods.

I would also suggest the Lost Creek area so that your kids have access to the Eanes school system. Lakeway would also be a good option since you would driving opposite the heavy traffic.
